Artist Statement

Ophélie Verhaeghe de Naeyer is a Belgian filmmaker and performance artist who’s creative work revolves around the intimate intersections of philosophy, poetry and psychology. She graduated in 2024 from a three year Bachelor of Arts in Performance Design and Practice at Central Saint Martins. She uses her artistic practice as a tool for introspection and healing, exploring themes of transgenerational baggage, familial trauma and dynamics, dreams and memory. She holds a strong affinity with production, having worked as production manager on a variety of theatrical and performance productions, as well as films. She also has strong skills of editing, and has been working as a projectionist on many productions.

"My work is not big, it is not loud. It is discreet, it lies in the interstices of poetry, dreams, and wild thoughts. It is a way of thinking, processing memories, and revealing beauty. It is questioning. Questioning our human nature, our past, our memories. Our identity. It is personal, yet universal. It explores the emotions that drives us all, the dreams that keep us up at night, the memories that shape our minds."
